- Refresh my memory. What are War Caches?
There's a bunch of bunkers in this desert, buried beneath the sand. We call 'em "War Caches." They were made by Crone Hegemony forces during the Rahu wars, and lots of 'em are still full of military equipment.
The caches are usually hidden, but sometimes the sandstorms expose one for a bit. I've hired a bunch of bandits to search for 'em. When they find a location, I buy the intel from them. Then my Seer gets to work.
- Your Seer?
Yeah. Sorry, I'm not supposed to use her real name. She's just "The Sand Seer," all mysterious. Anyways, when we get a location, she does some scrying for me, looking for a special kind of metal called xedrite. Not normal garbage xedrite, though. I'm looking for Weaponized Xedrite. Metal with incredible magical properties.
So that's the job: when we find a location with Weaponized Xedrite, we send you in to get it.
- What's the pay?
Well, that's a bit complicated. See, I'm collecting this metal on behalf of the Council, but I didn't really receive much of a budget. It's a long story.
So I can't pay much in Councils, but I've got some top-notch magical equipment! For each successful mission, I'll give you credit in the commissary, and you can spend it on whatever you want.
- The Commissary?
Yeah. My assistant Drima runs a little shop. There's weapons, armor, magical jewelry, and other things you might find useful.
- I'll consider it. Thanks.
“Have ya met Drima in there? He's a little whiner, but damned if he's not a great accountant!
I know he hates the desert, but this is the safest place for him to hide from the Winter Queen. I've been here a year and I've seen zero Winter Fae in this desert. Zero!
“Did I ever tell you how I won the battle of Tree-Rock-Bridge? I had to take on a tower of boulder-throwing ogres. The only approach was a rickety wooden bridge with no cover, which could support the weight of two troops at once.
Well... I'll save the details for my memoirs, I guess. Suffice it so say that we'd recently found a Cloak of Disguise that could make you look like a donkey. And ogres are dumb as shit. I'm sure you can figure out the rest.
Never be afraid to make an ass of yourself on the battlefield. Whatever works!
