Project Gorgon is compatible with the Steam Deck. This page shares advice and feedback from a few players.

Jackencola's Advice

Game runs fine on the Deck. On the highest graphic settings, I get 30-40fps in busy areas, so there's plenty of room to tweak and adjust. The default controls are fairly comfortable, although there is of course a learning curve if you're used to kb/mouse. If you're going to use it in dock mode with a kb/mouse, then those issues won't exist. I have not personally tested playing in dock mode.

There is a bit of a jerk for loading stuff if you run toward a busy area, but once it's all loaded it runs normal.

Chompy's Advice

Overall it worked really well and much better than I expected. Pretty much every hotkey that's important is mappable. I collected a few thoughts on how to improve the experience but none of these were particularly problematic and I don't think they warrant being high priority

I think I saved/published my controller settings as "pg custom chomp". Requires remapping some keys in-game too though:

I disabled Q/E strafe and instead will hold the left trigger (right click) so that the left joystick swaps horizontals from turning to strafe and the right joystick turns/angles. While not holding right click I have no strafe.

  • E - Use selected
  • R - Select next non-combatant
  • T - Move Up
  • G - Move Down
  • L - Open crafting menu
  • Disable keybind for: Ctrl+D opens skills menu

Optional:

  • Ctrl+Numlock - open saddlebag
  • Alt+1...Alt+9 - loadout 1 through 9

Edit: I still have not mapped hotkeys associated with selecting party members. This could make healing difficult, I use alt+# for loadouts but changing those hotkeys in-game to selecting each party member might work too (e.g., alt+1 selects first party member)

Reported Concerns

1. When steering with the left joystick, Autorun can become disabled when a W or S input is read.

2. If you use a held right-click to steer while moving (because doing so makes the left joystick swap from steering to strafing), if the cursor is over a menu or sidebar when right click is initially held down, it will not enable the steering.

3. Chatting can be tedious without a peripheral keyboard.

4. Actions that do not have hotkeys can be more tedious when performed on Steam Deck. Both controlling pets and moving items between inventory bags are mouse-heavy tasks.

5. If you want to inspect individual pieces of loot before you collect it off a corpse, this requires extra cursor movements as loot re-center-aligns itself when one item is collected.

6. Changing zoom levels can be tough. (Following Chompy's control suggestions above can improve this)

7. There is a visual bug in some zones (like Eltibule) where trees behind walls may render in front of walls.

BetaNotus's Advice

I use my Steam Deck almost entirely in docked mode, so my notes are entirely about that. My setup includes a JSAUX 6-in-1 dock, an ASUS monitor, headphones, and a keyboard and mouse. Much like Jackencola, I can run the game on the highest graphic settings, though I generally only see 28-35FPS. Using "Great" graphics I get a steady 40+.

Concerns

1. When I launch Gorgon from "Gaming Mode" while docked the maximum in-game resolution I can set is minuscule. Running the game from "Desktop Mode" allows larger resolutions to be used and everything looks much better on a monitor this way.

2. If you set a key for "Toggle Walk/Run," pushing that key can cause the game to completely freeze for 1-2 seconds if you are in Kur Mountains or Gazluk. Using a key as "Hold to Run" or "Hold to Walk" does not cause a freeze.

Vishar's Advice

I use my Steam Deck entirely docked on desktop mode (for PG), so my notes are entirely about that. My setup includes a JSAUX 6-in-1 dock, an old Eizo monitor (full HD max 60Hz), a keyboard and mouse. Much like others, I can run the game on the highest graphic settings, though I not use it because my deck getting to hot for my liking. I use modified 'Fairy' graphics setting with v-sync off and target framerates set to 40, and Vulkan rendering (-force-vulkan %command% on steam launch option)
