How do I edit?

This wiki uses the MediaWiki platform. If you are new to MediaWiki, see the Help articles on the sidebar.

Most importantly don't let the wiki editing get into your enjoyment of the game! Set some time aside to wind down and just play. One way I do it is to take captures with FRAPS and review them later in XnView. Capture2Text is very handy to grab text from an image and put it into the clipboard (saves typing).

Talk Pages

Please have a brief read of MediaWiki Help on Talk Pages. Signatures, indents, and topics (headings) in Talk Pages make it easier to see how the discussion is going and who has last replied, not just for the person you respond to, but any future editors who want to get up to date on the history of an article.

Ideally, replies to someone in any Talk Page should generate a notification, however it may not work on this wiki yet (we'll have to ask devs to add required extensions). Either way, structuring talk pages is very helpful.

Where to Help

The following areas of the wiki need the most help:

Pages that need fleshing out
Oritania (almost empty) - Under the Hand - Wolf Cave
Pages with existing but incomplete tables
Gems (complete the table)
Teleportation recipes
Surveying (list of maps and what gems they lead to)
Skills
Listing of the Advanced Abilities available from drops(recipes)/NPCs/etc
If you have high level play experience:
... overview of pros and cons (good abilities, bad abilities)
... relevant equipment/desirable augments on items (consider adding an example with Template:ItemT)
... which other skills does it work well with? and why?
Recipes
Tables of recipes available from various NPCs. It is not necessary (and probably overkill) to create new articles for each recipe, as the wiki search takes care of finding any relevant article. eg; If a player ingame types "/wiki orange" they will find any articles that mention oranges, including relevant recipes.
A table of recipes (columns for price, favor, etc, is secondary. Leave them out if that is too much work, it can be added later).
Dungeons
Higher level dungeons are poorly documented atm:
Listing of foes, special foes, and harvestable nodes
Describe Points of Interest in the dungeon
Add articles for missing bosses
Any particular general loot , quest loot that drops here?
Consider adding a few images to highlight the sights in a gallery tag (see Dungeon Template)
High level Zones
Sun Vale and soon Fae Lands (some abilities may move from one vendor to another, but those edits will not be lost, just moved to other articles as the game updates, eg. Agrashab 's Training)
Missing images
Look at Special:WantedFiles. Red links are usually missing images. Click the "(1 link)" next to the red link, click the page listed below, then from that page click the image link in the article to add a picture. Try to optimize pictures a little bit in Photoshop by using "Save for Web" (JPEG). Size it down to 300 pixels wide to reduce the file size, as most articles will display a 300px thumb. Larger images can be used in the Galleries at bottom of dungeon/zone articles.

Article Guides (structure and consistency)

Note that the following are not actual MediWiki templates. They are an example page in which we can discuss what the structure of the articles should look like. These should be used as a guide for creating new articles.

As the Wiki community grows we can discuss the of these articles in the relevant Talk Pages. For now I recommend to "watch" the templates below (click the star icon). They will be on your watchlist, and also appear to be in bold text in Recent Changes, so you can more easily follow updates.

Formatting Templates

For a full list of formatting templates, see Category:Formatting templates. Below are the most common.

If you have some template ideas, or something you'd like, drop me a message at User talk:Gorgonzola.

Template Demos Description
Quote Demos Quote in-game text (NPC talk, lore items, etc) and official sources.
Hint - Hides light spoilers inside a tooltip. This helps keep the layout nice as these fit "inline". Keep these hints short because they appear as a tooltip. You can not use double quotes inside, use single quotes 'like this'.
Spoiler - Hide big spoilers in a collapsible block. Unfortunately we can not format a table inside those! Consider using lists (bullet lists, definition lists).
ItemT Demos This is a fun template that gives the appearance of an in-game item description. Its goal is to liven up the pages with some visuals. As for all templates, its value is that we can change the appearance later for many pages just by editing the template, so if the in-game appearance change, that is not a problem. Icons are not yet supported until the Wiki has better Extensions installed (a default "empty" icon is used).
MOB infobox - Create an attractive "infobox" (as is commonly used in Wikipedia) for enemies and bosses. This is another way to liven up the pages. The info card does not document everything as that is in the body of the article. TODO More parameters will be added but are limited atm due to lack of proper Wiki Extensions.
MAP infobox - Create an attractive "info card" for dungeons and sub-areas (do not use for zones yet, may use a different template).

Sources for the Wiki

Besides in-game content, a list of known sources that can be used to flesh out the wiki:

F.A.Q.

Q. This wiki is too light/bright/does not look like a gaming wiki!
A: This is completely unimportant during the alpha. This wiki is hosted by the developers themselves, on their own domain. This means in due time, they may very well decide to revamp the general appearance to something more exciting. They obviously have more important things to do during alpha. What matters now is providing quality content and help for the players. If you prefer, consider helping out the Project: Gorgon Wikia site instead.
Q. The rich text editor is too basic/ the syntax is complicated.
A: It is. Consider it a new skillset. With that said, keep in mind this is collaborative work. If you don't like formatting things, simply focus on quality content. Someone else who is more into the layout and formatting will simply go over and tidy up things.
