Money Making Guide for Beginners (Serbule, Serbule Hills, Southern Eltibule)
Introduction:
Hello, and welcome to Krongarth’s guide to Councils (Money-making), the beginner edition. I’ve found that one of the problems with Project Gorgon is the lack of up-to-date, clearly defined, easy to locate information on different systems in the game, as well as methods to help people that don’t really want to muddle it out for themselves, and want at least a guiding hand to getting started in the game. So, I’m being the change I want to see in the world with this guide.
In this guide, I will attempt to concisely outline the favor requirements, methods and means to earn councils in the three ‘beginner’ areas of Project Gorgon. This is meant to provide a means to generate funds to become the basis of your affording skills, upgrades, unlocks and more in the game. I will section this guide in segments, based on different avenues that can be taken in the game to earn funds, and I will additionally try to hyperlink inside the Wiki to relevant items/recipes/NPCs in order to provide the smoothest possible experience.
With that said, I will also (while I continue playing) do my best to keep this guide up to date with relevant information. This guide will somewhat try to order sections in a ‘do this, then that, then that’ and so on ordering, so that it’s got some reasonable flow to it. This guide will assume some level of competency in playing a game, but will hold your hand a little bit too. With all this out of the way, we begin.
Disclaimer and warning: Everything below here is Spoilers/whatever. I hold nothing back. You are here reading because you want to make money, not because you care about spoilers while doing it. With that disclaimer, we actually begin.

Preface:
Tips & Tricks to Keep in Mind
A. (Almost) Everything has Value. - Keep what you can reasonably stack in storage, gift for favor what you don't need or don't think has lots of value right away, and sell the rest. Keeping room in your inventory is important - because without inventory space, you can't fill it up to make money.
B. It's okay to drop stuff. - It's okay to drop stuff that you don't think is -as- valuable as something else you'll soon pick up. 'White' rarity equipment items (except racial jewellery), items worth 1-5c each (grass, anyone?), or even just something less valuable than what you're trying to pick up. You'll live. There's always more money to make and stuff to find.
C. Marathon, not a sprint. - Favoring up NPCs is a marathon, not a sprint. You may see big numbers and go 'oh no, I'll never get this done' - It's okay. You're not expected to favor up any NPCs to soulmates instantly. Getting them to Friends+ is pretty great progress! Remember it's a long term goal/character upgrade, not a screaming need to finish immediately.
D. Ask for Help or information. - The Help Channel in game is an under-used resource by most people. Many online players will happily answer questions about the value of an item, a good spot to roam, where to level next, and so on. Just ask. It's okay. Most don't bite. (Except the giant bats.)
E. Be Patient. - Following this guide strictly will actually take a while. I won't even deny it. I've got over 600 hours in game and probably lived my early game following my own advice below for the first 100+ hours of it more or less, around my messing around and exploring. So put the guide down, go do other stuff, get lost, die horribly by accident somewhere, but the guide will always be there to help nudge your earnings back on track.
F. Bother Me, I guess. - I'm pretty friendly, as long as I'm still playing this game, I will be active in the official discord. Feel free to bug me with questions/comments/whatever.
Starting Fresh
So, you’ve just gotten off of Anagoge Island, and you’ve (hopefully) landed in the middle of a map called Serbule. You’ve talked to the nearest NPC and oriented yourself towards the big giant stone rectangle in the distance, heading into Serbule Keep. Depending on the entrance you use, you’ll run into Sir Coth, nobody, or nobody pretty much right through the gate, but you have ONE JOB as you get started here and enter the keep. Go. Talk. To. Everyone. That’s it. Literally approach every single NPC, in every single building, nook and cranny, and talk to them. Explore their talk menu, their small talk, and any ‘favors’ they’ll let you do for them - those are quests, we like quests - and take on any favors you can get right off the bat. We’ll come back to those soon. Avoid the one house in the south-east corner of the open keep area, that’s got some higher level NPCs that’ll kill you, but hey, dying is easy, you come back nearby.
Once you’ve done this, and you’ve met all the NPCs in the town, we’re going to focus our efforts on seven people primarily to start.
Sir Coth - (Buys many miscellaneous items - ancient coins, plates, cutlery, goblets being early game highlights)
Joeh - (Buys combat equipment, weapons, armor, but NOT jewelry)
Marna - (Buys Everything, low max cash however)
Fainor - (Buys cooking ingredients and completed foods)
Mushroom Jack - (Buys monster trophies aka monster bits)
Larsan - (Buys Jewellery)
Hulon the Hoarder - (Buys Recipes, Books, Scrolls)
These seven people will be your soon to be best friends over the next while as you seek to gain their favor, sell a bunch of your crap to them, and generally set yourself up a basis for (borat voice) GREAT SUCCESS - in playing Project Gorgon and having money.
Now, this is where Project Gorgon admittedly gets a little hard. It takes considerable time, effort and investment to set your NPCs up with favor, to maximize their cash stacks they’ll use on you weekly, and to set yourself up for the future. This is difficult to handle in the early game. It gets easier the stronger you get. Most favor from gifts are determined by the base value of the item you are ‘gifting’ to the NPC. Lower level items = lower values, it’s just the way of things. One multiplier on some favor gifting is the rarity of goods. So Red/Purple/Yellow gear items often have higher favor value from their rarity alone, not to mention their increased value.
Let me be perfectly clear. It’s not a fast process. If you’re a couple hours a night after work gamer, this may take you the better part of two weeks to maximize favor on just a couple of these NPCs, if you’re going at this completionist style. However, you don’t -have- to maximize them right off the bat. You can get them up a bit of the way now, and come back later. This guide just wants to highlight that it is in your BEST long term interest playing the game to get all these NPCs (and more) to Soulmates Favor level. Soulmate Favor NPCs are what you could consider to be a permanent character upgrade for your character in your ability to leverage earning more money each week. A quick rundown example here is how much money pool the NPCs have at different favor levels:
Marna at Neutral: 2,000 Councils a week - Marna at Soulmates: 4,000 Councils a week.
Sir Coth at Neutral: 0 Councils a week (he doesn’t let you use his shop until Comfortable) - Sir Coth at Soulmates: 60,000 Councils a week.
Joeh at Neutral: 5,000 Councils a week - Joeh at Soulmates: 60,000 Councils a week.
This is similar scaling for most NPCs, but the grand totals are like this for having all seven folks I’m highlighting at Soulmates:
Marna - 4,000 (+56 storage slots!)
Joeh - 60,000 (+46 storage slots!)
Sir Coth - 60,000
Mushroom Jack - 60,000
Fainor - 30,000
Larsan - 50,000
Hulon The Hoarder - 60,000
= 324,000 Councils. Per week. Covering basically every item category in the game across those seven NPCs. That’s not even all the useful NPCs in Serbule alone. Just the handful I’m highlighting for this guide.
For reference, a higher level uncap in the fae realm (level 70-80 skill uncap) costs in the region of 180,000-300,000 councils for one singular skill. Higher for combat skills, somewhat lower for non combat skills. Everywhere south of level 50, 300,000 councils will take you a little while to spend.
Additionally! Some NPCs provide storage space by ranking their Favor up. In our list, we’ve targeted only two - Marna and Joeh. So while all 7 here are useful and good - Marna and Joeh are the… most useful and good.
So we’ve outlined how and where and why we’re getting started. Let's move to the next section.
Favor and why it’s important…. To do favors.
So you’ve gone and followed the instructions above and met a bunch of NPCs. You’ve especially made sure to meet the seven NPCs that I named at least twice each above. You’ve also remembered to hit all their talk menus and acquire any favors they want you to do! Awesome. Good job. I’m proud of you. Now we actually get to play the game.
So by now you’ve done the tutorial, you understand at least a bit about combat, and you’ve read the primer above on NPC favor and why it’s good. Now you’ve gotten some favors (quests) and should set out to do them! I’m not really going to tell you what order to play the game in, or anything like that, the main pointer here is to do every favor you can, and if you die trying… well that’s just dying XP, that’s a skill, so you’re welcome. Try to keep doing your favor quests inside the Serbule zone for now, and get to it.
However, while you’re out there doing favors, you’ll want to meet some other NPCs that are around the Serbule map. There’s Charles Thompson (Alchemy Storage), Roshun the Traitor, Zeratak, Azalak, Jara, Ivyn, Leonard Allenson, Flia and Bahdba to all meet (and to favor up some of them, in time.)
We’re going to focus on our seven core folks for the moment, however, with some real numbers! We’re going to assume that for simplicity’s sake, since there’s thousands of combinations to reach Soulmates with any 1 NPC, that you’ve just for sake of argument not done any actual quest favors for anyone, for our numbers below. I’m going to provide an accessible/simple/direct method towards Soulmates with our core 7.
Required Favor for Soulmates: 3000
Joeh - Loves Meat - Bacon x 1200 (at 2.5 each) OR - Sausage x250 (at 12 each) or a combination therein or of other meats.
Marna - Likes Animal Skins - Shoddy Animal Skin x 3000 (at 1 each) OR - Rough Animal Skin x 1500 (at 2 each) OR - Crude Animal Skin x 750 (at 4 each) - Or any combination therein, these should be skins available in Serbule/Serbule Hills.
Sir Coth - (A note here, it’s okay to slowly do Sir Coth, artworks aren’t easily accessible in valuable amounts until level 40+ in the goblin dungeon.) - Loves All Art/Flawless Animal Skins/Ivory - I won’t do math here, but a useful thing to do with any flawless skins you get while looking for skins for Marna would be to hand them off to Sir Coth aiming to get him to around Friends level of Favor.
Mushroom Jack - Loves Mushrooms - Parasol Mushroom x3,334 (Yes, that’s an insane number, but the more valuable the mushroom, the faster this goes.) OR - Mycena Mushroom x1,667 OR less of any more valuable mushroom or a mixture of all of them!
Fainor - Loves Meat/Fish/Milk/Cheese/Vegetables/Prepared Food - A couple of good options here. Since you’re using straight meat for Joeh, doing Hard Boiled Eggs for Fainor isn’t a bad idea and also helps level cooking. Hard Boiled Egg x 2000 OR any combination of other meals/foods.
Larsan - Loves Fancy Rings/Gems/Figurines - This is super variable on ring value, but for gems it’s about 250 of them to Soulmates. I personally just chucked rings at him until I was soulmates.
Hulon the Hoarder - Loves Seeds/Seedlings - If you don’t care about being frugal about this, you can just throw potato seedlings at him until soulmates. However, if you’re picking everything up in Serbule/Serb Hills as you adventure, you’ll end up with a ton of Red Aster and Bluebell seeds. These are fine to toss at him. Bluebell Seed x 4,286 OR A combination of any number of other seeds.
So if you’re taking the time in game to just do everything as described by the guide as we go, you’ve probably spent like a week+ playing and just favoring these folks up, filling your storages with various things, learning to use the vendors in different ways, and finding the other folks in Serbule region to toss items at for favor and so on. Well done! I’m proud of how far you’ve come. But there’s more to do, if you want to! Onwards to the next part.
The Industrial meat grinder (and skins!) (For low levels)
So this section is rather to the point for the purpose of making some money. It does however involve a little exit from Serbule, assuming you’ve been doing some of the above.
If you’ve been following the guide and working on favoring up your 7 NPCs and generally getting some storage and unlocks done, you’ll likely have sold off some of the things you’ve just found in Serbule to the NPCs you’re working on, and that’s great! You have a bit of cash, you have a bit of levels, and maybe you want to focus up on one thing in particular. For now, it’s going to be one of the very most accessible things. Skinning/Butchering.
First things first is your tools. Hopefully on Anagoge Island, you remembered to get yourself a skinning knife or managed to find it or whatnot. If not, fear not! There are three options within reasonable walking distance. I will order them in safest to most dangerous.
Sammie Grimspine - Serbule Hills
Sammie is the safest to get to with only a few levels under your hat, you’ll walk south of Serbule keep, head to the portal taking you to Serbule Hills, and then wander more south almost directly from the area transition until you find a little farm on a hill nestled roughly between two blocky stone structures. Sammie lives there, and will sell you a knife.
Mandibles is at the Red Wing Casino - A really important place for your development for your character and account, so it doesn’t hurt to find it sooner than later. To get there, you’ll walk north from Serbule Keep into Eltibule, then pretty much immediately hang a left, hugging the cliff face until you find a weird structure with a mantis guarding the gate. Head right around the building, until you find a pile of rocks intersecting the wall guarding the entrance, and jump-shimmy on the rocks until you’re inside the wall, then head inside the employee entrance. If you go this way, take your time meeting NPCs, but Mandibles is in the kitchen, and will sell you your knife.
Kleave is in Eltibule Keep, in the middle of Eltibule. Similar to Mandibles, head north out of Serbule Keep, keep mostly to the road, but avoid the monsters you see - there are often many hostile wolves/panthers/boars along this road that will pretty much eat you alive if you aren’t at least about level 15 with a bit of appropriate gear for your level. When you reach the keep, Kleave is inside on the right, near to the forge area, beside a tanning rack. Kleave also at times has in their buy used of their shop greater leveled skinning knives sold to them by other players, at a modest expense. The best one is the Astounding Skinning Knife which would provide a +12 effective level to your skinning skill, and you should absolutely buy one as soon as you’re able to.
Kleave is also the main focus of this part of the guide, at least to do with skins. Up until now, you’ve probably been giving Marna your skins, or selling her some. That changes today. Now Kleave is your new best friend. Kleave likes skins. You can give Kleave skins for favor. At soulmates, Kleave will buy 60,000 councils of skins (or leather rolls) from you every week. We like money. Initially, Kleave will only let you sell them roughly 2,500 - 5,000 councils of skins per week. But that number quickly goes up until Soulmates, and you absolutely should ‘donate’ your skins to Kleave to make that happen.
For making money with skinning, that’s the whole bit for the low level version of this. Get Kleave’s favor up, sell Kleave skins. Profit.
Now, while you’re cutting up/incinerating and cutting up, or doing whatever you’re doing to the poor animals of the world, they’re gonna be dropping you loot. You can sell this loot to some of our big 7 vendors we’ve noted before, or you can be stockpiling the stackable stuff, or even making use of it for your own alchemy, cooking, or other needs. But what we’re gonna talk about is meat.
Meat is the cornerstone of many cooking dishes in Project: Gorgon. And as it turns out, meat by itself has a relatively low value. But Meat made into a dish, has much higher value. So for part two of this section, we are gonna highlight a couple of recipes for relevant meat to make sure you’re putting that meat to use.
Fainor is one of our big 7 for a reason. He’ll also teach you cooking recipes (for a cost) as you favor him up. This is great. Because here’s a short list of recipes utilizing meat that you should be learning from him to use in your adventures of either gifting, eating, or selling your meats:
Hard-Boiled Egg (Technically eggs, but worth-while mention)
You’ll see happily enough that Fainor also sells the salt and flour to go with many of those recipes, and as for bottles (of water), those can be had from Therese in the Serbule Garden, near-ish the work order boards and the big enclosed part of the keep.
Between the hides and meat you rip off of your defeated enemies, you can now earn your way up to 90,000 (60,000 hides, 30,000 meat) councils per week - once you’ve favored up Kleave and Fainor, of course.
However, one note of caution for this section of the guide. Make sure you’ve played enough to level up in Serbule before venturing too deep into Eltibule (level 15+), it’ll be difficult to get to Kleave if the panthers and wolves keep eating you alive.
If you’re still here, great work, we’re going to get to an exciting part next. Horses.
A horse, of course.
So, by now, you’ve probably been running around Serbule, Serbule Hills, and some of Eltibule, maybe to the Casino, and you’re probably thinking “Damn, going around on foot sucks, I wish I could go faster.” And you’re absolutely correct. But for this part, you’re going to want a few levels under your belt, so you’re able to take a hit or seven on your way to where you need to go. Before you leave, you’re going to want to have… 6,000 councils. That’s it. Have some liquid cash.
Head to Eltibule. Follow the road north. Past Eltibule Keep where Kleave and friends live. Keep going. Follow that road to the top-middle of the map roughly, where there’s another keep. Hogan’s Keep! Inside, there’ll be a little fenced off yard and a dude inside named Mythander. Mythander is gonna help you out with your Riding needs. Talk him up, pick the option to pay to learn, and pay 3,000 councils to learn riding. Congrats, you can now ride horses. But, Krongarth, you say, however do I get a horse? That’s easy. Talk to Mythander again, pay him 3,000 more councils, and he sells you a basic as heck horse. Wow. Done.
Tip!: Get your riding to 10. Find a player to sell you level 10 riding gear (Reins, Saddlebag, Saddle, Horseshoes) This will speed up your horse and give you travelling quality of life with a saddlebag storage space to access. You access this through the horse menu in the bottom right corner. Horse menu is on your sidebar menu bar.
Advanced tip: Head into your keybinds now that you have a horse, assign mounting up to your middle mouse click (click that mouse wheel and mount up!), and assign autorun to ` that lil key beside the number 1/! Button on most USA aligned keyboards. Now you have convenient binds for mounting, dismounting, and autorun. Hooray, travel has never been so easy.
Advanced, advanced tip: Depending on what server you're on, there might be some players participating in advanced horse breeding. These people can sell you faster horses. I suggest you get one. You spend a lot of time running place to place in this game.
Actual… Industry.
So by now, you’ve mastered the way of the horse, the way of favoring people up, and the means to get some storage, funds and other miscellaneous things done on your account. Well done! I’m proud of you.
However, there’s so much more to learn!
Industry. The Industrial Revolution. Mass Production. Or just some fancy mass murder and gathering. A means of making a side gig income that is cheap, easy, and sometimes just damn free.
You’ll want to head to Serbule Keep. Head towards the enclosed part of the keep. You’ll see the Player Work Order Board and the Work Order Board. You can check the Player board for player posted jobs - but be aware! Players try to use this board to get hella good deals from other players - READ: SCAMMING YOU IF YOU DON’T KNOW PRICING/VALUE OF ITEMS - So maybe shy away from that unless you know it’s a good deal/worth your time and or energy.
A really good typical rule is that if a player is going to pay you at least $100 per item, you can think about it, $200 is better, $300 is good, $400 is great in many situations, $500 is solid, and higher is pretty good, or the item is really worth much more to them.
Things like sand (magic, quartz, antimagic), stomachs, metal slabs above (good), and several more harder to get or more valuable things are typically worth well over 500 councils each, but we’ll get more into this discussion later.
Anyways, that was a tangent. Go look at the Work Order Board. There should be at least -two- options on the board that have no level requirement. Basically just go do them. Buy the orders from the board (just one for each!) and use them to ‘acquire’ the work order as a ‘quest’ in a separate ‘work order’ tab in your journal menu. Whatever it is. Healing potions? Send it, go figure out making 10, and go deliver them. Your lovely delivery location is in North-East Serbule to a gentleman named Fitz the Boatman and he’ll happily pay you for your industry work ordered items and give you some Industry experience points.
That’s pretty much the entire skill. You can do Industry work orders for each specific offered item/order once every 30 days. However, work orders cycle on a 3 hour timer on each work order board. There are different work order boards, they scale to industry level. Serbule handles levels 1-15 pretty much inclusive. Eltibule’s board in Hogan’s keep will go up to level 30-40 or so. Sun Vale’s board does level 30-50 stuff. Kur Mountains board only handles food orders of a wide variety of level (mostly level 25+). Casino work order board is a bit eclectic and has a wide variety available on it on a given day.
You can only accept so many work orders at once. You probably don’t want to buy a bunch of work orders and clog your storage with them with the mindset of “eh, I’ll do it later”. Down that road leads minor amounts of madness. And clogged storage. However, you can batch buy over a few days work orders that all correspond with a certain skill - IE: get every surveying or skinning or whatever work orders and stack them up, then go ahead and try and knock them all out at once in a leveling spree. That’s not a bad way to do it.
Work orders also drop as loot. Keep/use the good or easy ones. Vendor the rest.
As you level industry, you can take more work orders at once, you get paid out more for your work orders (+10% councils at level 50.), and you’ll basically just acquire some passive benefits from the whole thing.
Congrats, you have a basic understanding of industry and another income stream to make use of.
Tip: There’s a broken work order on the Serbule board that appears semi-frequently now for 10 pig snouts for like 71000 councils. This is clearly unintended but basically everyone’s been making use of it while it’s there, so hit that early bird bonus or whatever before it’s patched (betting next patch that it gets fixed as of early August 2026.)
Tip: Trophy hide work orders became much more worthwhile in the most recent patch. However, getting trophy hides is kind of a pain in the buttocks without the high anatomy skill of the creatures you’re skinning. What you -can- do is check the buy used on Kleave in Eltibule and see if there’s 10 trophy skins to go with an order, and see if it’s profitable. I think many of these are now semi profitable even buying the skins at a premium on buy used.
