Speaking of wipes, I wanted to give an update on that. I've decided not to do an item wipe at launch. The main point of the item wipe was to "reset" the game's economy at launch, but the benefits would just be too short-lived. Since we're not wiping players' skills, it would only be fair for a few months... and then the long-term players would suddenly have enough items to start out-producing new players (due to their higher crafting skill levels). A few months is great, but I fear that would really be disillusioning to new players in the long term. Plus, the "threat" of an item wipe keeps people from playing now -- and I'd like to see more players now.

When it comes to a "clean slate", I just need to think a little bigger: if we have enough players, we can open another server. That's the traditional MMO method for creating a level playing field!

So no item wipe is planned anymore. We may still need to wipe individual items, or even whole classes of items, or reset specific skills, etc., during beta, but we won't be making any big wipe at launch.

Will talk about this more in a blog post soon.
