Elder Game: Opening Pre-Alpha to Kickstarter pledges!
We’ve been hard at work robustifying the pre-alpha servers, and we’re finally ready to let people check it out! We’re sending out keys to Kickstarter pledges now. There’s still time to Kickstartify us here!
There’s no NDA, of course, so feel free to say anything you like about the game, but please do remember the game is 1.5 years from launch… and that the point of the Kickstarter is to get money for art!
While we’re proud of how far we’ve come, it can also feel embarrassing: there’s still so many things to fix, ranging from programmer-art (check out the cut scene!) to overly chatty NPCs (one early quest has ten screens of text to click through!) to bugs (you can attack other players’ pets!).
A regular game company would never show a game in this early state, but we’re doing it for a specific reason: we’d like you to come along for the ride with us, not just play it when the game is done. Your feedback during development will make the game a thousand times better. But it takes a special kind of person to see the potential of an unfinished game like this. We’re hoping you’re that sort of person. (You are, after all, reading an indie dev blog, and potentially pledging on Kickstarter, so this isn’t a big stretch!)
So if you get into the game, and you can see the potential hidden underneath it all, we appreciate it. And we’re going to work hard to make it worth your while to stick with us over the next year and a half as we finish this sucker.
EDIT: one more thing — when playing, be sure to keep your eyes opened and poke in corners! There are a half-dozen different skills in the newbie cave alone, but if you just run straight through, you’ll miss them. (You can always come back, though, so don’t stress about missing anything critical.)
