Useful tools: [http://www.fraps.com/ FRAPS] (screen captures), [http://www.xnview.com/en/ XnView] (image browser), [http://capture2text.sourceforge.net/ Capture2Text] (capture text straight to the clipboard, saves typing).==First Steps==
==Talk Pages==Please have a brief read of [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Talk_pages#Editing_conventions_on_talk_pages MediaWiki Help on Talk Pages]. '''SignaturesSetup your personal and talk pages, indentswhen you first log in, you will see your username and topics''Talk' (headings) in Talk Pages make the upper right corner click those to create your pages. Even if they are blank, this makes it easier for others to see how the discussion is going and who has last replied, not just contact you. It also allows for the person you respond to, but any future editors who want to get up to date easy collaboration when working on the history of an articlelarge projects.
Ideally, discussion in talk pages should generate Please have a notification, however it does not work brief read of [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Talk_pages#Editing_conventions_on_talk_pages MediaWiki Help on this wiki yet (we'll have to ask devs to add required extensions)Talk Pages]. Consider '''watchingSignatures, indents, and topics''' talk pages (click the starheadings) which you are participating inTalk Pages make it easier to see how the discussion is going and who has last replied, as they will be highlighted in not just for the [[Special:RecentChanges]]. Either wayperson you respond to, structuring talk pages is very helpfulbut any future editors who want to get up to date on the history of an article.
==Formatting==Use existing Consider '''watching''' talk pages (click the star) which you are participating in, as a guide, and for further details see they will be highlighted in the [[Project Gorgon WikiSpecial:Formatting|formatting guidelinesRecentChanges]] page.
Next, it will be helpful to familiarize yourself with some of the information to the right. This wiki uses the '''MediaWiki''' platform. If you are new to MediaWiki, some Help articles can be found on the sidebar. You can edit the wiki if you are logged into forum account. Please click that, and create a page about yourself, and a Talk Page so that people may leave you messages.

When creating pages, we would like to maintain some semblance between similar pages. You can check out the [[Project Gorgon Wiki:Formatting|formatting guidelines]] page, although partially outdated. The best method is to find a similar page, and see the formatting of that page.

Finally, pick something to add. You can choose from one of the general categories below or anything that you come across that you would like to work on.
==Where to Help==
The following areas of the wiki need the most help:
 ; Pages that need fleshing outCreature Page Updates: [[Oritania]] (almost empty) - [[Under Most Creatures require updates to follow the Hand]] - [[Wolf CaveCreature Template]]. Combat Abilities, Miscellaneous, and Reported Loot sections need updating!; Pages with existing but incomplete tablesMissing Images: It would be great to get nice clear images of most creatures and NPCs. It would be preferable that these screenshots be taken on the highest level of graphics. Focus on lower level areas first (Serbule Hills, Serbule, Eltibule, Anagoge). You can look at [[GemsSpecial:WantedFiles]] if you want to. Red links are usually missing images. Click the "(complete 1 link)" next to the table)red link, click the page listed below, then from that page click the image link in the article to add a picture. Try to optimize pictures a little bit in Photoshop by using "Save for Web" if your version offers it. Size it down to 400 pixels wide to reduce the file size, as most articles will display a 400px thumb.; Missing Monsters: [[Teleportation]] recipesThere are at least four named bosses missing on the wiki!; NPCs: [[Surveying]] (list of maps and what gems they lead to) Many NPCs are missing their Conversations section.
; Skills
: Listing Many skills require a few sentences about the skill, and possibly some user comments on mechanics.: The [[Druid]] skill '''''needs''''' to be expanded on. It is missing most of its core gameplay elements and players '''''need to know''''' all of the Advanced Abilities unique requirements and where they drop or who teaches them (very useful)cases of the skill. Much needed as it is a popular subject for questions.: It would be great to have images for all skills, something that represents the skill.
: If you have high level play experience:
:: ... overview of pros and cons (good abilities, bad abilities)
:: ... relevant equipment/desirable augments on items (consider adding an example with [[Template:ItemT]])
:: ... which other skills does it work well with? and why?
: Simple lists or tables of level up skills/rewards. <span style="color:#F00;font-size:1.5em;">*</span>

; Recipes
: Simple lists or tables of recipes. <span style="color:#F00;font-size:1.5em;">*</span>. Such lists are useful for the wiki search, even without individual pages, if a player /wiki "fried banana" ... the pages listing the recipe will show up in the results.

; Dungeons
: Higher level Many dungeons are poorly sparsely documented atm::: Listing of foes, special foes, and harvestable nodesstill require:
:: Describe Points of Interest in the dungeon
:: Add articles for missing bosses
:: Any particular general loot , quest loot that drops here?
:: Consider adding a few images to highlight the sights in a gallery tag (see [[Dungeon Template]])
; Gameplay
: Pretty much all gameplay articles can be expanded upon.
; Missing Pages
: Look at [[Special:WantedPages]] to see if you can start on any of the pages. And Be sure that it is not just a misspelled word! Red links on a 'normal' wiki are usually an indicator that something is missing. If that page is relevant and you can expand on that page please do so.
; Delete pages
: If you come across an irrelevant or duplicate page and want to have it deleted, add the code <b><nowiki>[[Category:Candidates for deletion]]</nowiki></b> to the bottom of the page. One of the wiki administrators will be notified.
; High level Zones== Spoilers ==:: '''Sun Vale''' NPCsIf the information exists, this Wiki should record it somewhere. Now, foesProject Gorgon is exploration based, landmarks (during alpha so some abilities may move from one vendor to anotherspoilers might damage potential discoveries players might make. In general, record everything, but those edits will not be lostif the topic spoils a riddle, just moved to other articles as the game updates) ; Missing images: Look at [[Special:WantedFiles]]. Red links are usually missing images. Click the "(1 link)" next to the red linkpuzzle, click the page listed belowor is something extremely hidden, then from that page click the image link in the article to add a picture. Try it is best to optimize pictures a little bit in Photoshop by using "Save for Web" (JPEG). Size spoiler tag it down to 300 pixels wide to reduce the file size, as most articles will display a 300px thumb. Larger images can be used in the Galleries at bottom Some parts of dungeon/zone articles. ; IMPORTANT: <span style="color:#F00;font-size:1.5em;">*</span> Please be aware that Eric (lead dev) has expressed interest in feeding most abilities/recipes into the wiki at some point (probably using the "Semantic" extension and formatting tables with special templates). That means you should probably not create any individual , such as Lore related pages for recipes or abilities at this point during alpha. Doing so is , contain spoilers, but do not terribly useful need to be marked as the wiki search will find them in relevant lists (NPCssuch. Zones, or Skills Dungeon pages), Hidden Skill mechanics, and they may be overwritten when this data is fed into the wiki directly from the developer's spreadsheets/database. If you NPCs that have knowledge of how to automate this kind of thing, please message [[User talk:Gorgonzola]]. The ''design'' of such tables can be discussed in the [[Skill Template]] pagemajor reveals should use spoilers.

==F.A.Q.==
; Q. This wiki is too light/bright/does not look like a gaming wiki!
: A: This is completely unimportant during the alpha. This wiki is hosted by the developers themselves, on their own domain. This means in due time, they may very well decide to revamp the general appearance to something more exciting. They obviously have more important things to do during alpha. What matters now is providing quality content and help for the players. If you prefer, consider helping out the [http://project-gorgon.wikia.com/wiki/Project_Gorgon_Wiki Project: Gorgon Wikia site] instead.
; Q. The rich text editor is too basic/ the syntax is complicated.
