Quest Information on NPC Pages
==Regarding Quest Information on NPC CategoriesPages==The basic categories I'm using atm. Feel free d love to make suggestions or criticism I am by all means a WikiMedia beginnerhear any thoughts from folks about simplifying the ''Quests'' subheading on NPC pages. My initial thoughts and reasonings are below:
: <nowiki>[[Category:NPCs]]</nowiki> (Currently the same information is manually edited in two locations.#On the page containing the top level category)quest information itself#On the NPC page - if up to template standards that includes five pieces of information:: <nowiki>[[Category:Serbule NPCs]]</nowiki> Favor, Objective, Reward spoiler, Requirements and Hints. This creates a duplication of work for wiki maintainers working on both pages, and leads to a situation where information may conflict (within a given zoneif one of the two locations is out of date):: <nowiki>[[Category:Crypt NPCs]]</nowiki> . On an aesthetic note, the spoilers have always looked off to me in this section (within a given dungeonbeing non-indented both in heading and expanded - as well as bold when quest names are not):: etc.
====NPC Likes====I'd like to propose the following:So here I figured at first I would make categories #Switch Quests subheading to help search. However be a simple search of DPL object pointing to the wiki eg "prepared food" will show Category:Quests/NPC Quests#Remove spoilers, hints, rewards and requirements from the articles, including relevant NPCs. So hmm.NPC page (achieved by using DPL instead of manually editing/linking quests pages)
But perhaps this could This would achieve:#A cleaner look to the quest subheading for NPC's (the look and information on NPC pages would be standardized).#IMO aesthetics of use later with NPC pages would improve by removing the DynamicPageList tag? So we could have a table of all sorts of items spoiler blocks#Decrease the workload for maintainers by removing the need to duplicate information (and a dyn. page list (inlineverify duplicate information) of #Centralizes all NPCs that fall underquest information on the quest page. for a given quest.
For simplification purposes, I am currently using This could impact users:#Users who come to the wiki looking for a specific quest by name would likely not be impacted (landing directly on the Quest page)#Users who land on the NPC page first ''may'Likes''' always even if it says 'have one additional click to access the information##Sort of... users have to click Expand for spoilers, and many quest on NPC pages don''Loves''' in gamet contain spoilers, this is to avoid having separate categories for what is essentially the same (the further distincton is probably overkill)objectives or hints.
Sometimes I Now is a good time for this change because:#Except for Druid quests, all quests pages on the wiki have to make a call recently been updated/uploaded, following the standardized quest template.#All quests now contain categories for location (i.e. Serbule, Eltibule) and simplify NPC who initiates the quest. This allows for example "Loves Skulls the first time use of All Types" can be simplified DPL to "Likes Skulls" so in case there are other variants they will all fall under "who gives favor generate quests list (See [[Chirrra]] for my skulls?".an example)
: <nowiki>Thoughts? I'll look for comments for ~week or so, and unless there is consensus against (or the admins say no!) I'll proceed with this proposed change and update NPC pages accordingly.
