Quest Information on NPC Pages
==Regarding Quest Information on NPC CategoriesPages==The basic categories I'm using atm. Feel free d love to make suggestions or criticism I am by all means a WikiMedia beginnerhear any thoughts from folks about simplifying the ''Quests'' subheading on NPC pages. My initial thoughts and reasonings are below:
: <nowiki>[[Category:NPCs]]</nowiki> (Currently the same information is manually edited in two locations.#On the page containing the top level category)quest information itself#On the NPC page - if up to template standards that includes five pieces of information:: <nowiki>[[Category:Serbule NPCs]]</nowiki> Favor, Objective, Reward spoiler, Requirements and Hints. This creates a duplication of work for wiki maintainers working on both pages, and leads to a situation where information may conflict (within a given zoneif one of the two locations is out of date):: <nowiki>[[Category:Crypt NPCs]]</nowiki> . On an aesthetic note, the spoilers have always looked off to me in this section (within a given dungeonbeing non-indented both in heading and expanded - as well as bold when quest names are not):: etc.
Note that I have started using these categories with DynamicPageLists in 'd like to propose the Zone articles! Thus adding following:#Switch Quests subheading to be a new DPL object pointing to the Category:Quests/NPC Quests#Remove spoilers, hints, rewards and requirements from the NPC to Serbule NPCs category will automatically show up under "Friendly NPCs" page (achieved by using DPL instead of the relevant Zone.manually editing/linking quests pages)
====This would achieve:#A cleaner look to the quest subheading for NPC Likes====So here I figured at first I 's (the look and information on NPC pages would make categories to help searchbe standardized). However a simple search #IMO aesthetics of NPC pages would improve by removing the wiki eg "prepared food" will show spoiler blocks#Decrease the articles, including relevant NPCsworkload for maintainers by removing the need to duplicate information (and verify duplicate information)#Centralizes all quest information on the quest page. So hmmfor a given quest.
But perhaps this This could impact users:#Users who come to the wiki looking for a specific quest by name would likely not be of use later with impacted (landing directly on the Quest page)#Users who land on the DynamicPageList tag? So we could NPC page first ''may'' have a table one additional click to access the information##Sort of all sorts of items ... users have to click Expand for spoilers, and a dyn. page list (inline) of all NPCs that fall undermany quest on NPC pages don't contain spoilers, objectives or hints.
For simplification purposesNow is a good time for this change because:#Except for Druid quests, I am currently using '''Likes''' always even if it says '''Loves''' in gameall quests pages on the wiki have recently been updated/uploaded, this is to avoid having separate following the standardized quest template.#All quests now contain categories for what is essentially location (i.e. Serbule, Eltibule) and NPC who initiates the quest. This allows for the same first time use of DPL to generate quests list (the further distincton is probably overkillSee [[Chirrra]] for an example).
Sometimes Thoughts? I have to make a call and simplify 'll look for comments for example "Loves Skulls of All Types" can be simplified to "Likes Skulls" ~week or so in case , and unless there are other variants they will all fall under "who gives favor for my skulls?"is consensus against (or the admins say no!) I'll proceed with this proposed change and update NPC pages accordingly: <nowiki>[[CategoryUser:Likes Snail ShellsKedoch|Kedoch]]</nowiki>: <nowiki>([[CategoryUser talk:Likes JewelryKedoch|talk]]</nowiki>) 14: etc.49, 11 April 2018 (EDT)
