Vampirism is intended for experienced players and it requires many high level group quests to fully unlock. Once you start you also have to deal with the sun. In exchange you get access to a skill with high potential for Trauma, Psychic and Darkness damage with exceptional crowd control abilities. At the moment it is possible to reverse the vampirism but this may be removed in the future.
