* To learn this skill, read a level 0 poetry book, a [[Poetry primerPrimer]], or be nearby when another player publicly reads a poetry book at the podium in the [[Chortling Beaver]] in [[Serbule]]. In the case of the latter, you must first rate the poem, then will receive a third of the XP afforded by reading the book to yourself.
* More XP is gained from more valuable poetry books, which in turn require higher poetry appreciation in order to read. Typically, this requires the player to identify an [[Unidentified Poetry Book]] or [[Unidentified Poetry Chapbook]], both of which are rare, difficult-to-find items, using their [[Art History]] skill. Once identified, the book can be read either by the player or publicly if the Poetry Appreciation requisite is met.
