I know you understand the basics of alchemy, but you'll need to understand more than just the basics before I can teach you with a clean conscience. I need to know that you can safely handle dangerous substances, can source exotic ingredients, and can make a palatable potion. I'll teach you an alchemical formula, you make it and bring it to me. I drink it. Easy as that.

“You've proven that you're unlikely to blow yourself up, and you know how to obtain exotic ingredients without getting shived in a back alley. So I'm happy to train you in advanced alchemical methods. But I have to warn you about the price.
I know Crafting Guilds are a sore subject in this city for some reason, but where I come from, the Alchemist's Guild is very important. As a member of that guild, I have to pay a tax whenever I teach a recipe to another alchemist. So that tax is added to my training fee. Plus additional fees for all the paperwork and such.
If you can find a cheaper teacher, use them. If no, I don't want to hear complaining. Understood?
