Hi LaughingLeader and welcome. Thanks for helping out! I like the idea of the chart. In a similar vein I created merchants to help out new players with the sometimes overwhelming task of emptying bags. However I can't quite figure out the pattern to the categories underlying what merchants will or will not buy, so if you have ideas of how the table can be simplified further let me know on the talk page there. Well, there are a few "guide" pages in the "Guide" section of the homepage. The chart you are planning could go there, I presume. Feel free to msg me in-game (same name). Atm I recommend to watch other editors pages (we aren't that many yet) as you will only get a notification from comments on your own talk page (like this one), but not on the other pages. --Gorgonzola (talk) 17:46, 9 October 2014 (CDT) | Hi LaughingLeader and welcome. Welcome!
--Gorgonzola (talk) 17:46, 9 October 2014 (CDT)
Favor Hints/Spoilers
Regarding the other goal on your page. Note that atm the Hint template I made limits the length of the text inside it somewhat since it is a tooltip. As a tooltip it doesn't support newlines unfortunately. But it has the advantage of being "inline" and helps trim down the page a little bit. So the idea atm is to summarize we cant list all possible gifts/favors but we can list the most valuable ones, and the non-obvious ones for the player who is stuck. --Gorgonzola (talk) 17:52, 9 October 2014 (CDT)
Thanks!
Hi Gorgonzola. Happy to be here. I've been using your merchants guide quite extensively lately. Thanks for making it.
I was thinking that there could be a sort of "tier" layout for defining favor gifts for NPCs. Something like Low, Medium and High. Low would be gifts that yield a small amount, yet still might be worth getting as they will most likely be cheaper and more abundant. Medium would most likely be the most-used category, as it provides a fair amount and is still rather easy to obtain. High would be the tier for the gifts that yield high favor, such as +41 for Enchanted Holly Seeds at Therese, yet are much more difficult to obtain.
Many of the NPC pages have these kind of favor item submissions hidden within the "hints", so I figured pooling all those into one page would be useful for players.
Regarding the hint template, I figured it was designed for being pretty short and concise, as stuffing an essay into a tooltip might be a more challenging to read than something hidden in a spoiler tag. Hints are definitely useful on an NPC's individual page. Something like your chart on the merchants page would be more suitable for a list of NPCs and their ideal favor gifts.
