- Oh for the love of Vol, here's another one.
- Another one?
- You heard Povus was dying, and that there's riches beneath the soil, so here you are to help save us. Or at least get rich trying.
- Look, please just kindly fuck off. I have no money left, and I don't need more dead idiots on my conscience.
- I just wanted to know if there was somewhere in town to stay?
- Nope. There used to be a flophouse, but not anymore. Most everyone's dead or moved out.
- What happened?
- Well, it started when the ratkin population got so high that it became dangerous to go out surface-mining. Then a fool rakkie poisoned the water... that's the problem with rakkies, they're unpredictable. It made no sense. None! The poison killed most of the froggies down river but just pissed off the orcs, who came and got revenge. That started the downward cycle.
- Go on...
- No thanks. Look, you can try to sleep in one of the empty houses overnight if you really can't get somewhere safer. Be inconspicuous. Stay quiet. Keep your blade handy.
- Okay. Well, goodbye.
“Why am I still in Povus? Because I can't afford to move back home. Getting my equipment shipped here from New Aufghel was a torturous and expensive process, years in the planning. I can't get my forge home, and I'm not leaving it here.
I'm an old dwarf who made a dump mistake and now I have to live with it.
“Any jackoff can hammer out some metal and stick it on their body, but if you want top-tier magic on your armor, you've gotta attune it to a god. That has to be done by priests of that god.
“Truth be told it's pretty hard to ruin a forge. The orcs tried to knock it down, but I just put it back up again. It's still consecrated, too. But one of these times they're gonna manage to break it for real, and then I'll be sunk!
“My forge is consecrated to Umrad, god of dwarves and metals. It cost a lifetime's fortune to get it made, too. The priests of Umrad don't work for cheap. I hear they make most of their income blessing forges.
