Hike through mountains to the warm land of Povus

Well, the town's broken up into walled areas. You're in Old Town, which includes this area and the one immediately south. Wrapping around Old Town is the Sprawl district. At least that's what we ended up calling it. East of the Sprawl is New Town. And New Town is surrounded by the Annex. Most of the Annex was never finished, but the bit direction south of New Town used to have some residents.

Dachak the Digger

Povus is a Rakshasa-controlled land that serves as a buffer between the Council's jurisdiction, and the Crone Hegemony. West of Rahu and north of Gazluk, the swampy terrain of Povus is home to a variety of reptilian monsters.

Neighboring Regions

Rahu
The so-called capital of the Rakshasa, Rahu City in the east rivals Povus in allure to crafters and merchanteers. The portal to Rahu is in eastern Povus.
Gazluk
A frozen, hostile land separating most of the Rakshasa lands from the rest of the Council's eastern reaches. The portal to Gazluk is in southern Povus.

Paleontologist Clan Outpost

In the northwestern hills of the Povus region, a goblin clan which specializes in paleontology has established a small research outpost. The area is reportedly overrun with the results of their continued research.

Dungeons

      Fungal Fortress

The Fungal Fortress is a series of Myconian, Dwarven, Mantis, and Goblin tunnels converging underneath the Povus region. Just as the surface of Povus suffered from plans gone-awry, this subterranean landscape has been blighted by misfortune of its own. Accessing the dungeon requires at least [friends] favor with Mope, a Myconian who played a key role in the Fungal Fortress's tragic tale.

      Teleportation Circles

There is one Council constructed Teleportation Circles in the Povus region.

          Events

          Nightly Raids

As darkness overtakes the town, an unsettling sound can be heard throughout Povus. Invaders!

          — Status message

Monsters showed up again?! The demoralized town loses 63 XP.

          — Status message

Each night (around 8pm game-time) the town of Povus is ravaged by monsters. When you help the town fend off these threats, you gain personal rewards and also help the town recover.

          • Start by lighting the lamps around town. This will help keep the monsters at bay.
          • Once all the lamps in town are lit, visit the town signboard for a reward.
          • You can also start another quest at that time, if you so choose.
The second quest is chosen randomly. Complete it and return to the signpost for a reward. After that, the quests get a bit harder, and require two players to start. (
Both players must interact with the signboard at the same time.) Later quests require 3, 4, and more players, up to a maximum of 6. These later quests are quite deadly and it may behoove you to team up!

          Town Level

The town's current state of disrepair is represented by a level. You can view the town's level from the signboard. The town earns XP when you complete nightly quests, and levels up when its XP bar is full. But there's a catch! Every night, right as the monsters appear, the town loses XP. This can cause its level to drop!

The town's level determines which villagers and amenities are present. For instance, Povus must be level 3 to activate the forge. Stephie Blackhammer also returns to town when it reaches level 3. These features (and people) disappear again if the town's level drops below their requirement.

          Povus Town System Guide

After lighting the lamps, players must work together to start each subsequent wave of the invasion. For a wave to start, a minimum number of characters must interact with the Town Status Board.

          Tier: 1 2 3 4 5 6
          Players: 2 3 4 6 9 12

If all quests are completed, and enough time remains, 16 characters can interact with the board to start the Capstone Quest, Povus Safety: River Terror!.

Red Hanging Lanterns decorate Old Town

          Pigeon Mail

On some nights, completing Povus nightly-invasion quests earn extra XP for the town and extra reward items for you, too. This happens every few in-game days (which works out to once or twice per real-world day).

Tremmond Blackhammer keeps a mailing list of heroes on call. If you're logged in during the day leading up to a bonus-reward evening, Tremmond will try to notify you via pigeon-mail, to give you some advance warning.

Pigeons are dispatched to online players once per game-hour, so it may take a while to receive your notification. When in doubt, check this status board: if tonight's invasion will have bonus rewards, it will say so!

          — Town Status Board

Characters can opt in and opt out of the Invasion Bonus Pigeon Mail list whenever they want, by visiting the Town Status Board. The Town Level must reach 6 before pigeons are dispatched.

          "Bonus" Nights

Some nights in Povus, the quests are worth more. This happens every 4-8 game days (which maps to 8-16 real hours, which means this happens an average of 2 times per realtime day). On Bonus nights, each quest earns the town +100 additional town XP, plus additional item rewards for participants.

The town signpost has an indicator if the upcoming night's quests will earn bonuses. In addition, at the signpost you can "join Tremmond's pigeonmailing list" to receive notifications the game-day before a bonus night. (These notifications are sent to currently-online players every game-hour during the game-day, so you may not be notified if you're offline at the wrong moment. If in doubt, just check the signpost!)

Note that at this time, "Bonus Nights" aren't actually any harder than regular nights. They're just bonusier. Some of the in-game flavor text suggests that nastier things are coming, but they're wrong. We might change this in the future as we continue to evolve Povus.

          Game updates/2021-10-29

          Armor Shipments

When the "Light the Lamps" quest is completed at night, local merchant Ishiko will stop by the Povus docks at 10am game-time the next day to buy crafted metal armor. Each piece of armor you give her earns Town XP for Povus, helping it level up. But the cash payout is very poor, so this is primarily a way to donate armor to improve Povus.

          Game updates/2021-10-29

          Town Storage

When you complete a Povus nightly quest, you can now earn storage slots as part of the reward. The first few slots are earned just by completing one or two quests, but later slots require more quest-completions. Eventually you can have up to 80 slots in the Povus storage chest.
