Welcome

Welcome, and thanks for helping out :) --Gorgonzola (talk) 11:08, 29 September 2014 (CDT)

Btw, I meant to say thanks for the Sanja and Jace Soral additions, really nice! Hmm this just got me thinking, would it make sense to have a category for Beast friendly NPCs? We could pull a list with DPL tag on the beast form pages. Though I don't know myself if beast friendly NPCs talk to all beasts or only certain kinds. --Gorgonzola (talk) 05:15, 12 October 2014 (CDT)

It isn't uniform between them. For example, I know that Mushroom Jack, the Hogan's Keep goblins, Azalak, etc. all speak to all beast form players, however Suspicious Cow only speaks to Deer, Pigs, and Cows, and I'm fairly certain Sanja only speaks to Wolves (It was full moon when I last spoke to her, so I couldn't check). No doubt there are other exceptions I haven't found yet. Karunama (talk) 15:39, 12 October 2014 (CDT)

Categories

Note that categories like "Mushrooms" may limit our ability later to index various item types, but that depends on how much is really worthwhile to index. To be honest I did the "Likes" categories mostly to learn how they work. Atm I usually just "/wiki spoons" for example, and the wiki search will give me the relevant NPCs due to the text search. So atm I just don't know what is going to be the use for them, but I am not at all experienced in MediaWiki so maybe I am missing something. One idea in the longer term would be to add little icons next to the items in the "Small Talk" section, and clicking those will go to the category page, showing other NPCs that like the similar item. --Gorgonzola (talk) 08:44, 2 October 2014 (CDT)

PS: Oh I see what you did there with the Category:Likespage, good idea :) --Gorgonzola (talk) 08:50, 2 October 2014 (CDT)

NPC Shop Icons

Hi guys. I think the basic Shop icons templating is ready for use. See NPC Template and Item Icons Guide. Many icons are reused in-game so a lot of items in shop listings should be covered. We will just add icons over time whenever the fancy arise :) I have some ideas to make it easier to create those shop listings (with a little script).. but for now that's how it works. IF you somehow want more data on the shop, msg me in-game (Gorgonzola), or post on my page, or post on the Talk:NPC Template I should see it. Currently you can see one idea for Lucky Belt is I used a ABBR tag to put the skills in the tooltip. There's always compromises to be made, I think icons make the shop list easier to scan, and is worth the extra space. Having those icons also gives us other possibilities, for example see Sword#Equipment. --Gorgonzola (talk) 16:31, 6 October 2014 (CDT)

Creature Type Pages

Hi Karu, as discussed I'm wondering how to handle the creature types. (you seemed to have interest in that part of the wiki). Atm creature type more or less equals in-game Anatomy classification right? Thats probably the more logical way to go. So we have "Arthropod", "Fungoid", "Goblin", etc. First I would suggest to make new pages, reather than use the Category Page themselves. Here is an example from GWW Arachnids. Perhaps on that page you can list the Anatomy XP you wanted to? On this page we can make an automatic list with DPL tag. The ones we don't have an article yet, we can just manually list them in that page so we don't forget about it. I would do just like GWW and use a simple page name: "Fungoid", "Goblin", "Giant", "Plant" ,etc. If needed later we can add the anatomy pages (the sub skills), so eg. "Dinosaur" is the creature type, and "Dinosaur Anatomy" would be a skill page (if we ever want to document these). Only too generic name I can see is "Plant" ("Biting Vine"s in Sun Vale). For Therese, you used Category:Plants (plural) as the Likes category, so there is no collision there. Let me know what you think. --Gorgonzola (talk) 20:32, 6 October 2014 (CDT)

So to clarify I propose to make these pages named exactly: Aberration, Arthropod, Bear and Bugbear, Canine, etc. (exactly as written in the in-game anatomy sub-skills). I fixed "Dinosaurs" (Dinosaur) and "Ruminant Ungulate" (Ruminant) as these didn't correspond to the in-game skills pane. All these pages are non-plural (unlike the "Likes" categories). If you're fine with that, feel free to go ahead with any of these pages. --Gorgonzola (talk) 20:45, 6 October 2014 (CDT)

I went ahead and created a few pages to get a better idea of how that would work. As you mentioned that you planned to "make (anatomy) page link to the relevant creature anatomy info".. I edited a few links in there. So you can see the general picture: Anatomy sub-skills table links to the creature type pages ("Aberration", "Undead", etc). Hopefully that's what you meant. On each creature type page I put a small mention of the Autopsy Kit (links back to Anatomy page). Those pages use DPL tag to list the currently categorized creatures. The other ones we can add manually for whenever we feel like adding the page later (the red links can act as a todo list basically, eg. in Plant I put one I found that I don't have time to document atm). If you have ideas for this page feel free to make something like Creature Type Template so we can decide on a structure there? --Gorgonzola (talk) 15:57, 7 October 2014 (CDT)
PS: As you can see I used the in-game Anatomy sub-skills description to get a basic intro for the page. --Gorgonzola (talk) 16:00, 7 October 2014 (CDT)

Beast Form Pages

Regarding your recent edit of Spider Form. Actually I think it would make sense to use "Pig Form" or maybe "Pig (beast form)". When I started editing here, there was already "Cow Form", which seemed logical. But then there is "Lycanthropy" instead of "Werewolf Form"... Personally I would prefer to have consistent "Animal Form" page names, as the Deer, Pig, Spider are too generic articles and intuitively sound like the basic creature or type. Let me know what if you want you can go ahead making the "xxx Form" pages and moving content there, and blank the ones behind. I know a player may /wiki spider ... In that case I would suggest to add to the intro of the basic creature "A player can turn into (animal), see animal Form". How's that sound? --Gorgonzola (talk) 05:04, 7 October 2014 (CDT)

I agree that it should be internally consistent, so if I was going to consider the best way to do it, IMHO it would be Spider (Skill). That way Lycanthropy and the various beast forms stay heterogenous, both with themselves and all the other battle skills. Karunama (talk) 07:14, 7 October 2014 (CDT)
Sure, I like that. Makes sense , it is a full skill line right. So Spider (Skill) Cow (Skill), etc. Not sure wjhat you mean with Lycanthropy. Should we have Lycanthropy (Skill) or Werewolf (Skill)? i think the latter may be easier for players? --Gorgonzola (talk) 08:07, 7 October 2014 (CDT)
Btw, if you blank out a page sometimes and don't know what to do with it, you can use #REDIRECT [[pagename]] to make it into a redirect. (presumably that does the exact same thing as "Move", it is not possible to truly move a page it seems, or not obvious at all). --Gorgonzola (talk) 08:09, 7 October 2014 (CDT)
Definitely Lycanthropy (Skill). That's how it appears in the game's skill tab, after all. Karunama (talk) 11:02, 7 October 2014 (CDT)
