File:Animal Handling (skill).jpg
A player and his Panther pet.

The art of taming animals and teaching them to fight alongside you.

Animal Handling is currently obtained from Gisli, in the northeast corner of the town in Serbule, for 2000 councils. Currently, gaining the first favor level doesn't seem required before he will teach it to you.

Animal Handlers spend a ton of time with their pets, raising and training them. Ancillary skills like Animal Husbandry let them breed pets to get the best genes for fighting (and best colors and appearances!). Animal Handlers have a lot of versatility because they can summon different pets for different problems, but they have to spend a lot of time out of combat raising these pets. (Hopefully this is a fun activity for them, though! It’s aimed at people who think raising and breeding virtual animals sounds fun.)[1]

You will need to know how to charm an animal to get started (players can learn how to charm rats on Anagoge Island). When you have a charmed animal with you, use Tame Pet to make it a permanent pet.

You can have as many pets as you have stable slots. You can buy more stable slots in town.

If your pet dies, you can either try to resuscitate it in the field using a Good First Aid Kit, or head back to the stable to revive it for a small fee.

To raise the Animal Handling skill you have to use pet abilities while fighting, just like any other skill.

There's a lot more to it, and a lot more to come.[2]

Stables

Stables are accessed by speaking with Stable NPCs. These NPCs let you purchase additional Stable Slots, rename your pets, level up your pets, release unwanted pets, and most importantly, revive them if they fall in battle.

Stable Locations

So I heard you want to train more than Rats... How about a cat? (Level 20)

Once you reach Level 20 Animal Handling, you can begin to charm Cat mobs. Unlike rats, charmed cats only stick around for a few minutes, so tame them quickly!

You can only tame pets at your own Animal Handling skill level or up to five levels higher. For example, Grimalkin are level 55, so you need level 50 Animal Handling to tame it.

Resting among the Fey Panther and Bear Groupiepopulation in Southwest Eltibule, a sacrificial altar may be found which will enable those qualified to unlock the knowledge to Charm & Tame a cat.

The shrine will present you with a riddle, and ask for an item to be sacrificed.

Anchor Runes

Prodigies well versed in Animal Handling may learn the Unnatural Wrath abilities.Hint These abilities require an Anchor Rune to be used.

Shadowy deer formed Constructs such as the Misery Yak are the only source of this item at this time.
