Trivia
- Beer *hic* good. Liquorr iz behterr, um, yeah.
- Alcohol Tolerance is the first skill to grant bonuses to other skills based on character race. At level 10, you receive an Anatomy bonus level to either Human, Elf, Rakshasa, Orc, Fey, or Dwarf, depending on your race!
- Warning: If your eyes are easily prone to bright light or headaches, use caution in developing Alcohol Tolerance, especially if you plan on drinking three beers and one shot of liquor (the maximum of each during any 15 minute period) at once to maximize the XP. The aftereffects of being fully intoxicated long enough to develop the alcoholism debuff include the UI becoming very bright white, which will effect your game-play and how well you can see in the world. As long as you avoid drinking three beers and one shot of liquor at the same time, you will avoid any chances of developing alcoholism. Also avoid layering the effects - even drinking 3 beers when you still have alcohol effects in your system will result in developing alcoholism. After the drink(s) are gone, alcohol remains in your system for about 15 minutes more.
- The bright world debuff is a permanent effect until the alcoholism debuff subsides. During the day in zones like Rahu, Kur, and Gazluk, it will be very hard to see anything because the world will be painfully bright. There is no fix for this debuff in any graphics settings. You just have to spend the in-game time "getting clean," and you might want to limit your gameplay to darker locations such as dungeons or the various zones at night. (Alas, Alharth has no alcohol rehab facilities.)
- On top of that, if you develop alcoholism, you will have an additional debuff which reduces your HP by 30 percent. You can reduce this HP debuff to a mere 1 percent loss by using the Dwarven Fixer Each dose of Dwarven Fixer lasts 1 hour, after which you have to keep drinking it every hour to keep the debuff at bay until your alcoholism subsides.
- The alcoholism HP debuff has three decreasing stages over time, starting at 30 percent HP reduction. After a while it will drop to 15 percent, and finally 5 percent. Eventually the debuff will go away, as will the 'too-bright world' condition. There appears to be some random timer or other elements involved with how long it takes, including whether you stopped drinking after developing alcoholism.
- Dying does not remove the intoxication effects of alcohol. It's possible to die multiple times from the same intoxication effect. (Dying also does not remove the alcoholism debuff.) Drink Responsibly!
- A Minor Panacea most likely removes the alcoholism debuff, but is a rather expensive solution considering its relative rarity.
- Use "right click" for movement to avoid randomly changing directions when drunk.
- Wearing a Monger's Boon hat can prevent you from randomly changing direction (also known as "The Spinnies") while drunk, because it has a buff of -100% chance of changing direction when disoriented.
- There is nothing which can prevent your combat skill bars from becoming scrambled if you are sufficiently drunk (Debuff message: "You are unsure what abilities to use.") However, if you have skill and equipment loadouts, you can use those to quickly restore your combat bars to your preferred order. Otherwise, you will have to reorder them yourself.
