An enchanting table.

Along with Augmentation and Shamanic Infusion, Transmutation forms the mechanism for enchanting gear in Project Gorgon.

Transmutation is a skill learned from Makara. Through the use of strange phlogistons, it allows you to change a mod (treasure effect) on a piece of gear. Doing so will attune the item to you and reduce its durability. But don't worry! You can sacrifice prisms to restore durability.

Makara is located slightly off of the default map in Ilmari desert. Because the map does not yet have a graphic, Makara is currently located at a place due south of the space between the words "No" and "Map" on where the map says "No Map Available"

Transmutation versus Augmentation: Transmutation lets you change the treasure effects (mods) on your gear, whereas Augmentation lets you add one additional treasure effect (mod) to a piece of gear. With Transmutation you distill items into phlogiston and use a transmutation table to make changes. With Augmentation you decompose items into beads and baubles in order to extract a mod from one item and place it on a different item.

The transmutation process summarized:

Step 1) First, using Transmutation recipes, you "distill" pieces of gear that you don't need into "phlogiston" (these items are destroyed - so make sure you only distill items you don't want!)

  • Note that distilling items yields different qualities of phlogiston: shoddy, rough, crude, decent, and nice. Depending on the level of the item you want to transmute/change, you will need a particular type.

Step 2) After you have enough phlogiston saved up, you go to a transmutation table (one is located near Marna in Serbule and another in Rahu). The table will prompt you for the item that you want to enchant/change.

Step 3) You will then be able to view which treasure effects (mods) you can change, as well as the amount of phlogiston one "re-roll" change will require. Generally, you can choose to re-roll to a generic mod (+ armor, health, inventory etc.) OR a class-specific mod (fire magic, necromancy, psychology, etc.)

  • When you roll a mod, it is RANDOMLY chosen from a fixed pool of mods available for each gear slot. You can visit www.gorgonexplorer.com (spoilers) for a player-run database of every mod to really customize and perfect your build. They are also available on the wiki at "/wiki/<skill name>/Treasure_Effects". Example: Fire Magic.

Step 4) For each change you make, your item's durability will be reduced by 20-25%. All items start with 100% durability, so you basically get 4-5 transmutation table rolls before you need to repair the item. *** You can still use/equip the item even if it has 0% durability; you just won't be able to use the transmutation table again to make further changes until you repair the item.

  • The "Repair" durability recipes require prisms (see Augmentation for more info on acquiring prisms) and you can only repair an item a certain amount of times per week.
