- Oh, hello.
- Did that "Baroness" send you? She has no grounds to evict us. We aren't leaving just because some human demands it. If we caved in to every petty local tyrant, we'd never have made it through that goblin-infested forest!
- Look, we'll only be here for a few moons. Maybe more, maybe less -- but we won't be here forever. So you needn't get all worked up!
- No, the Barroness didn't send me. Why does she want you gone?
- It's not important. My name is Trasen. And yes, Merriana and I are weather witches. But you needn't worry! We're quite professionals at it. You aren't in any danger from us.
- We've come from Dwyndarre, an elven city far from here. It's destroyed, you see, so we've gone traveling.
- Interesting. How did you end up here?
- Merriana heard some rumors that an old artifact is here. I came along to learn of the magical waterspout seen in this area!
- A waterspout?
- Yes, it happened several years ago. A huge localized column of water was seen leaving the sea and crossing acres of forest. And the locals here confirmed that it landed in the lake nearby.
- Back in Dwyndarre, Merriana and I were Stormmasters. So its something we've been meaning to learn about.
- Have you learned anything else about this waterspout?
- The locals say that it happened before the Ranalon arrived. My belief is that the ranalon came via that waterspout somehow. Incredible, isn't it?
- Does that mean the ranalon have weather magic?
- I don't know much about the ranalon. They definitely don't use magic the way we do, but they may have some comparable weather spells... we can't rule that out.
- Personally, I think they had some help: a very powerful wizard, or maybe even a god intervening directly. It's not supposed to happen, but it happens.
- Actually...
- Yes?
- The Ranalon have been very uncooperative with us. I've... I've had to kill more than a few.
- Maybe you'd have better luck? I just need to gather some more information about them.
- Perhaps I can help, yes.

- The windstorms can get pretty loud at night. That's why I wear a Helmet of Calm Air to sleep. Merriana thinks I'm being a baby. I just like being comfortable!
- Tell me more about Weather Witching.
- That's what humans call our art. The elven word better translates to "weather work" or "weather crafting." It's a respected elven school of magic. Well, semi-respected.
- Anyway, what did you want to know about it?
- Can you explain the history of Weather Witching?
- History? Oh, I don't know too much about that. My knowledge only goes back a few thousand years, and it hasn't changed too much in that time!
- Well... there's been a few disastrous new spells invented in that time, granted.
- And some catastrophic research disasters. That sort of thing. I don't mean to make light of the calamities that Weather Witching has caused. But let's be rational: it's not even close to the destructive legacy of simple fire magic!
- The craft has just gotten an unfair reputation because of a few outside incidents.
- How does it work? Is it powered by the gods?
- No. Well... everything is powered by the gods, right?
- How do weather witches fly?
- Tell me about the tornadoes around here.
