Dalvos is a former member of The Council, who is looking for a way to reclaim his seat. He recently created the Brain Bugs in an attempt to create intelligent life. His second attempt was to teach the Mantises based in Serbule's Under the Hand the Mentalism technique. His most recent experiment is based on an artifact known as the Naturesphere. He seems to be working on an army of sentient weather, an advanced form of Weather Witching.

General Lavorel is hunting Dalvos.

World Influence: Serbule

The Brain Bugs that roam Serbule are the result of one of Dalvos's experiments.

The red crystal that forms the Crystal Cavern seems to have grown due to Dalvos as well.

Tutorial Cave

Dalvos first began experimenting with the Naturesphere in the Tutorial Cave. The remains of his experiment can be seen in a room where snow is falling on a small tree.

The hags are becoming more persistent. I won't be able to stay here much longer. Must wrap up my experiments!

The Naturesphere is done -- the magical sunlight grew a tree in just a few weeks! Even more amazing: when I turned it off, warm sunlight continued to pour into the cave! Perhaps I don't understand this device as well as I thought.

Gajus was one of Dalvos's experiments in the Tutorial Cave. When Dalvos was forced to abandon the cave, Gajus was left behind.

My brain enhancement gems work on animals, and I believe they can work on humans, too. Found a hapless test subject. The hags cleared away most of its intelligence so it should be easy to see if he becomes smarter. Gem slivers have been injected into his forehead, and now we wait and see.

... clearly smarter, but unintended physical deformity...

I have been able to teach the test subject some rudimentary fire magic, which he has taken to with ease...

... attempted to infest me with my own brain-growth crystals, screaming that he would make me a freak like he is. Had to put him down.

... decided to reanimate the test subject. As I suspected, the intelligence is permanent, even through death! If I could just correct the hideous disfigurement, I would have a miracle treatment!

... must leave cave. Test subject can fend for itself

Crystal Cavern

Dalvos further experimented with the Naturesphere in the Crystal Cavern. His workshop can be found at the far end of the cave, guarded by a Tornado. It rains in spots inside the cave.

I know you work for the Council, and I pity you. But I am no ordinary bounty. Do not come further. My poisonous beasts will slay you, and no one will mourn you. -Dalvos

Jarmanger,

So when you needed to keep a dangerous army at bay, you used my crystal walls. I think that's adorable. If the public knew how weak their "War Hero" had become.... but anyways, because you're not a lying worm like the rest of them, I'll give you the honor of forewarning: I am coming to reclaim my crystal walls. I need them more than you do.

Find a different solution to your little problem. If your feeble magic is up to the task...

The Naturesphere continues to confound me. It seems to be leaking an incomprehensible amount of magic. But what amazing power! This will succeed where my other experiments have failed. The mantises, the brain beasts, all of those can wait. I have a better idea for an army...

If I can create enough sentient weather... I could reclaim my place on the Council. And then I could... but no more daydreaming.

First, I must find a way to contain the Naturesphere so that it doesn't destroy the world.

Item-icon-book.png Frantic Note

The Gorgon Maronesa was another experiment created by Dalvos. She was abandoned by him when he left the cave.

Day 5: Creature remains too docile to attack me on sight and has not attempted to become bipedal. Claims she is happy the way she is. Frustrating. All discussions invariably lead to commentary on lactation. Also frustrating.

Day 6: new plan! Going to make a plague beast. Force-fed her huge amounts of ranami root to insight violent tendencies.

Day 7: Creature is violent and very contagious. However, it's a one-off contagion: other infected subjects won't spread the disease. Unacceptable.

Day 8: Must leave! Abandoning experiment. Going to infuse ranami root throughout remaining food in the hopes that she eventually becomes a sociopathic killing machine. If I ever make it back here, I'll check up on her.

World Influence: Eltibule

Dalvos was a colleague of Sir Villas Wake.

Boarded up Basement

Dalvos created the Nightmare Creatures found in the Boarded up Basement and the Goblin Dungeon. One Nightmare Creature, Xegatis, left notes in the basement.

FAILED AGAIN! It's over. No more experiments. No amount of healing can fix us: we were meant to feel only pain. But why? Why did Dalvos make us? What purpose could we possibly serve?

If there is hope left in me, it is the hope that I can some day repay Dalvos for creating us

Fitz the Boatman

I haven't seen specimins like this since young master Dalvos left to Statehelm! They must be made by an admirder of his technique. I wish to collect them for sentimental reasons.

Azalak

We mantises were slaves of Dalvos, alongside those idiot brain bugs, for decades. But now we are free! And we seek culture desperately. It makes many of my brethren foolish.
