A Lycanthrope's Beast form makes for a very powerful animal form. You'll be able to change to and from wolf form at will, with the following limitations:
* You may become a wolf at any given moment, but your beast spirit will resist turning back to humanoid form until you've killed enough enemies (the higher your level, the less kills you'll require). Currently, level 53(Potentially lower) lycanthropes may turn to and from wolf form without having to shed any blood.
+
* Characters with Lycanthropy may become a wolf at any time, instantly. However, to become humanoid (or your alternate beast form) again, wolves must kill a certain number of enemies before their beast spirit will now allow them to un-transform. The higher your Lycanthropy level, the fewer enemies you need to kill to un-transform, until at Lycanthropy level 53, you can switch back and forth without any killing.
* During the full moon, you will be forcefully turned into your beast form, and won't be able to turn back until it's all over. This happens once every lunar month, matching the RL moon cycles, for the three first days of it straight.
+
* During the full moon, Lycans are forcefully turned into wolf form and cannot un-transform for the three days of the full moon. This happens once every lunar month, matching the real life moon cycles. If your Lycanthropy-infected character was not in wolf form and offline when the full moon began, during the full moon you will be transformed into the default brown-fur wolf form immediately upon logging in. If you have unlocked and want to be in the Winter Wolf or Dark Wolf form during the full moon, you need to be in that form before the full moon phase begins.
* Remember that turning into a lycanthrope is a PERMANENT CHARACTER ALTERATION THAT CANNOT BE UNDONE and won't be made reversible either. This means you'll have access to the benefits the skillset has, the ability to shift between your normal and beast form at any moment out of the full moon... but will also be stuck with its downsides from there on. Because of this, it's highly advised to carefully consider the pros and cons before making the decision.
+
* Remember that turning into a Lycanthrope is a PERMANENT CHARACTER ALTERATION THAT CANNOT BE UNDONE and will NEVER be made reversible (the developers have repeatedly confirmed this). For this reason, it is highly advised you carefully consider the pros and cons before making the decision. For three days every month, Lycans are forced to play as a wolf, and several NPCs and vendors will not speak to wolves. Some can be persuaded to speak with wolves after a particular bribe or a short quest, but a few will not offer any options at all. This situation can by mitigated by using an alternate character and the transfer chest to sell items or by finding similar vendors in other zones who will speak to you or have a wolf bribe quest.
 +

 +
Advantages
 +
*Lycanthropy is one of the only few animal forms that can shift in and out of their humanoid or alternate beast form at will (except during full moons). And the transformation is instantaneous.
 +
*The Beast Metabolism ability, in which you can consume the corpses of your defeated enemies rather than burying them, provides a unique temporary health regeneration buff and, when leveled, significant boosts in overall Metabolism.
 +
*The Howling ability, which grants health regeneration boosts and damage boosts—a buff which can last for up to five hours if the howling is done with additional howling wolves present.
 +
*During the full moon you have unique quest objectives that serve as an interesting alternative to typical skill progression.
 +
*Like all beast forms, Lycans (when in wolf form) can learn and use the Warden combat skill.
 +
*Wolves can wear and benefit from crafted wolf-specific metal armor (see Armorsmithing).

While you're in beast form, you will have the following abilities, among others:
+
Disadvantages
* The ability to combine different moves, dealing mainly crushing and slashing damage, with several side effects such as stuns, heavy armor damage, bleeding, and even a special "pack attack" that will deal increased damage for each werewolf attacking the same enemy.
+
*Lycanthropy is an Animal Form. Like all animal forms, you have no hands and many NPCs will refuse to talk to you. A few animals (such as Red in Kur) may not talk to you either or lose favor if you try to speak with them because you are a scary animal. The defensive pylons at the Fox Camp in Kur will also attack you.
* With gear mods you can also gain good amount of trauma damage - especially form Sangune fangs skill. On top of that you can choose mods that passively boost ALL trauma damage you do when wolf skill lane is active, and even give every wolf attack chance to apply trauma DoT.
+
*For the three days of the full moon you will be unable to return to your human form no matter what. Words of power will work for their duration.
* The ability to howl, eventually gaining a morale boost buff from it that will increase your out and in combat health regeneration, alongside small bonus to damage. The morale boost buff can stack up to one hour duration. Each werewolf that howls close by to each other, together boost both effects and max duration - +1h +2hp regen and +1 damage for each. So five werewolves howling in the same place can stack a buff up to 5 hours each. Repeatedly howling will also eventually get you experience on the Howling sub-skill.
+
*You cannot chop wood or milk cows while in wolf form. (Again, having a humanoid alternate character to deal with these matters when you are in wolf form can be handy, pun intended.)
* The ability to feed on enemy corpses (currently, no limit to what you can eat, even tornadoes!), gaining a very nice regeneration buff from this, for a duration that will depend on your Beast Metabolism sub-skill (the more you feed on enemies, the higher this sub-skill will go).
+
*Secondary combat skills while in wolf form are limited to Animal Handling, Mentalism, Necromancy, Priest, Psychology, Unarmed, or Warden because all the other combat skills require a specific enabling held weapon. Weapons for other skills are not recognized as being equipped while in wolf form, although any bonuses or mods on the primary or secondary weapon items do still apply.
* During the four days before full moon, and the first three days of it (when you're already force-shape shifted), you'll receive the Lunacy buff, which increases your max health by +30. (Both in your humanoid and beast forms)

* You will receive the option to perform several tasks for Norala, goddess of the hunt, during the full moon. These quests will earn you tokens, which you'll then be able to turn in in exchange for different boons (extra max hp/power, werewolf damage, damage mitigation, abilities...) that will last you until the days prior to the next full moon. See the Full Moon Section for more information.

* Keep in mind that, once you become a werewolf, you'll be especially vulnerable to silver and wolfsbane, both in your humanoid and beast forms. Eating foods that contain wolfsbane, and being hurt by or simply holding a silver weapon on your hand, are sure to cause some serious damage and potentially kill you.

They unlock permanent buffs like 50-60 lycanthrope, 60-70 lycanthrope, and dark wolf form or unlock month long buffs like +%damage, +health, +armor and the coveted +12 run speed bonus buff.

* It is advisable to unlock the dark wolf form last. The number of tokens is limited by the number of quests. Unlocking the level caps and werewolf abilities should be a priority since tokens are "time gated" by the full moon.

Sanja can unlock Lycanthropy levels 51-60 and 61-70 for councils. Alternatively (and rather less expensively), these level unlocks are also available at the Altar of Norala during the full moon for task reward tokens. Similarly, See Red 6 and See Red 7 are also available from Sanja for councils, or from the Altar of Norala during the full moon for tokens. You may want to schedule your training options accordingly.

If your character is a Druid and can transform into a deer, assuming it is not the full moon, you can use that to speak freely with NPCs who will speak with animals but are afraid of scary wolves. Transforming directly from wolf to deer (and back again) still counts as being in continuous beast form in terms of the 3-hour in-game beast form status required to speak to most Animal Town residents. (Druid bird forms also work.)

Lycanthropy Overview

A Lycanthrope's Beast form makes for a very powerful animal form. You'll be able to change to and from wolf form at will, with the following limitations:

 • Characters with Lycanthropy may become a wolf at any time, instantly.
 • During the full moon, Lycans are forcefully turned into wolf form and cannot un-transform for the three days of the full moon.
 • Remember that turning into a Lycanthrope is a PERMANENT CHARACTER ALTERATION THAT CANNOT BE UNDONE and will NEVER be made reversible (the developers have repeatedly confirmed this).

Advantages

 • Lycanthropy is one of the only few animal forms that can shift in and out of their humanoid or alternate beast form at will (except during full moons). And the transformation is instantaneous.
 • The Beast Metabolism ability, in which you can consume the corpses of your defeated enemies rather than burying them, provides a unique temporary health regeneration buff and, when leveled, significant boosts in overall Metabolism.
 • The Howling ability, which grants health regeneration boosts and damage boosts—a buff which can last for up to five hours if the howling is done with additional howling wolves present.
 • During the full moon you have unique quest objectives that serve as an interesting alternative to typical skill progression.
 • Like all beast forms, Lycans (when in wolf form) can learn and use the Warden combat skill.
 • Wolves can wear and benefit from crafted wolf-specific metal armor (see Armorsmithing).

Disadvantages

 • Lycanthropy is an Animal Form. Like all animal forms, you have no hands and many NPCs will refuse to talk to you. A few animals (such as Red in Kur) may not talk to you either or lose favor if you try to speak with them because you are a scary animal. The defensive pylons at the Fox Camp in Kur will also attack you.
 • For the three days of the full moon you will be unable to return to your human form no matter what. Words of power will work for their duration.
 • You cannot chop wood or milk cows while in wolf form. (Again, having a humanoid alternate character to deal with these matters when you are in wolf form can be handy, pun intended.)
 • Secondary combat skills while in wolf form are limited to Animal Handling, Mentalism, Necromancy, Priest, Psychology, Unarmed, or Warden because all the other combat skills require a specific enabling held weapon. Weapons for other skills are not recognized as being equipped while in wolf form, although any bonuses or mods on the primary or secondary weapon items do still apply.

In-Game Description

Lycanthropy Mechanics

 • Once a player becomes a werewolf, they'll be especially vulnerable to silver and wolfsbane, both in humanoid and beast forms. Eating food with wolfsbane or holding a silver weapon will harm werewolves.
 • During the three days before full moon, werewolves receive the Lunacy buff, which increases their max health by +30. (Both in your humanoid and beast forms)
 • Wolves have the ability to feed on enemy corpses for a regeneration buff that becomes more powerful based on Beast Metabolism
 • The ability to howl increases a wolf's (out and in) combat health regeneration and damage. It will last up to an hour for a single wolf or for example 5 hours for a group of 5 wolves. Werewolves that howl together boost both effects and max duration by - +1h +2hp regen and +1 damage for each wolf howling in proximity. Repeatedly howling will also eventually get wolves experience on the Howling sub-skill.

The Full Moon

 • During a real life full Moon players will be stuck as a werewolf. If players are in white wolf form before the full moon you still stay in this form which is preferable due to the form's cold weather mitigation.
 • If wolves try to change forms during the full moon they will be stuck as the default brown wolf. Players can not change from normal wolf form to white wolf form during the event.
 • The full moon is an event. Go to Kur Mountains zone and enter the Wolf Cave at the Far north and center of the map. Directly Inside the cave is an Altar of Norala. Completing the altar quests will earn tokens. These tokens disappear if not used during the current full moon. They unlock permanent buffs like 50-60 lycanthrope, 60-70 lycanthrope, and dark wolf form or unlock month long buffs like +%damage, +health, +armor and the coveted +12 run speed bonus buff.
 • It is advisable to unlock the dark wolf form last. The number of tokens is limited by the number of quests. Unlocking the level caps and werewolf abilities should be a priority since tokens are "time gated" by the full moon.

Altar of Norala

During the full moon, werewolves may now interact with the Altar of Norala placed at the entrance of the Wolf Cave in Kur Mountains. The Altar performs several tasks for the goddess of the hunt, which will earn them tokens they can then spend on special abilities, unlocks and boons.

 • The tokens must be used during the full moon or they will disappear.
 • The Boons and Runspeed buffs that are unlocked with tokens will last until the next Real Life full moon.

These mount speed abilities are now to be added to your riding bar rather than the sidebar. They do still need to be renewed each month at the Full Moon.

Riding

As a Beast Form, Lycanthropes are not able to use the traditional Horse mounts offered through Riding. Instead, Sanja in Kur Mountains teaches the wolf mount-form to Lycan players who are at least level 30 in Lycanthropy. Hunting Speed (1 through 3) are now Wolf mount abilities (they used to be sidebar abilities), and are activated in the usual way at the Altar of Norala each month at Full Moon.

Completing a quest with Jace Soral to defeat Bleddyn the werewolf will grant you the following alternative shapeshifting ability:

Ability Name Description Level
Become Winter Wolf Become a wolf with a thick winter coat of fur. (Use again to attempt to stop being a wolf). (+5 indirect cold damage mitigation, -2 indirect fire damage mitigation) 0

Trivia

 • Lycanthropy has no cure! There will never, ever be a cure. Be 100% certain you want your character to be a Lycan before committing to it.

Notes
